If you’re familiar with my site at all, you’ve probably heard me mention My Morning Smoothie about a dozen times at least.

It’s a staple in my new whole foods lifestyle and the most important one at that. And for the past 8 months I haven’t strayed from that recipe- until now.

I don’t know why or really what came over me… but I just felt like I needed to go one step further with my morning smoothies. Get serious. Really dig deep into the potential cleansing power of green smoothies. I looked all over the blogosphere, taking bits and pieces from here and there until I finally came up with one that felt right with me. And what a powerful DETOX smoothie it ended up being!!

My original morning smoothie only had 6 ingredients. This one has 14.

You might be wondering why in the world I would trade-in such a simple recipe for such a complex one. Well, because the complexity of ingredients is what makes this new smoothie SO POWERFUL.

The changes I saw and felt once I swapped morning smoothie recipes was crazy! I thought I was doing great before, but I had no idea. My skin is spotless, I have SO much energy, and my under eye circles have virtually disappeared. I’ve notice dark spots on my skin, marks that just refuse to completely heal, that have just vanished. And I can’t even begin to imagine how my body is benefiting internally!! There is no way I can deny the powerful affects these new detoxifying ingredients are having. Trust me, I am never going back to the beginners 6. From now on I am all in!

Just look what these ingredients can provide for you-

Spinach/Kale: These leafy greens are both great sources of amino acids (protein), calcium, beta carotene (vitamin A), vitamin K, iron, manganese, magnesium, zinc, folate, and selenium. All around super foods, spinach and kale are great for strengthening the body, creating beautiful skin, boosting the immune system, and providing important antioxidants. Also, each is full of fiber which is great for cleansing the colon!

Romaine: Contains vitamin C and beta carotene (vitamin A). These two nutrients work together in the body to prevent plaque from forming on artery walls. It is also a good source of potassium, folate, iron, vitamin K, manganese, vitamins B1 and B2, and chromium. Romaine helps to regulate blood pressure, build blood, and support body movement.

Cucumber: Highly hydrating, cucumbers are full of B vitamins, silica, and electrolytes that help build clearer, brighter skin. The vitamin C, caffeic acid, and electrolytes in cucumbers makes them great at fighting puffiness and bloating in the body, working as an anti-inflammatory team.

Celery: Very alkaline, full of calcium, magnesium, and potassium. Good source of B1, B2, B6, and C vitamins, folate, iron, and amino acids. Celery helps to lower high blood pressure and reduce puffiness. It contains compounds polyacetylene and pthalides which reduce inflammation and stress (causing blood vessels to dilate), respectively. Celery is a powerful detoxifier and colon cleanser.

Pear: Contains vitamins C, E, B, and K, copper, manganese, potassium, iron, magnesium, selenium, calcium, zinc, and folate. Pears are wonderful for the skin and supportive of both the lungs and the colon.

Banana: Contains vitamin B6 and magnesium which help promote better sleep. Bananas also have fiber, vitamin C, potassium, and vitamin A. They promote good digestion, prevent constipation, contribute to healthy blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

Lemon: Extremely alkaline, are high in vitamin C, and traces of calcium, potassium, and magnesium. Lemons are a powerful detoxifying agent. They support liver function, purify the blood, destroy free radicals and toxins, flush out bacteria, fight wrinkles and rejuvenate skin. Great for long-term weight loss.

Chia Seeds: These seeds swell 10 to 15 times their original size when placed in liquid, which makes them great for weight-loss. They also help stabilize blood sugar levels, providing you with longer lasting energy. Chia seeds are an excellent source of protein, calcium, anti-oxidants, and omega-3 fatty acids. 

Mint: Great source of vitamin C and beta carotene (vitamin A), copper, iron, potassium, magnesium, and calcium. Mint aids in digestion, is helpful in relieving congestion of the respiratory tract, and lowers blood pressure.

Parsley: A powerful detoxifier, parsley aids digestion, removes toxins from the body, acts as a diuretic by flushing out the kidneys, and purifies the blood. It contains vitamin A, C, and E, folate, iron, and anti-oxidants.

Cinnamon: Studies have found that cinnamon helps lower blood sugar, have anti-oxidant effects, fight bacteria, and reduce inflammation.

Ginger: Helps ease nausea, maintain proper blood circulation, improve nutrient absorption in the body, is anti-inflammatory, strengthens immune system, and fights common respiratory problems.

Turmeric: Very high in anti-oxidants, turmeric is a great anti-cancer agent. It is also anti-inflammatory and works as a blood cleanser. Cleansed blood results in clearer, brighter skin. 

Cayenne Pepper: An incredibly potent spice, cayenne pepper is often used to detoxify and cleanse the body (mostly due to capsaicin). It has anti-cold/flu properties, aids in digestion, has anti-fungal properties, helps discourage formation of blood clots, supports weight-loss, promotes heart health, and aids in joint-pain relief.

So, I am sure by now you get that this smoothie is crazy good for you. But… how does it taste?

Better than you would think! Haha. I am not going to go out of my way to try and convince you that this is the best thing I’ve ever tasted- it’s not. But it’s good. Definitely good. Especially with some help from a few drops of stevia. The flavor can ultimately be described as Ginger-Pear-Mint. You’ll have to try it for yourself to see- it will surprise you!

I’ve actually come to really enjoy the taste of this smoothie. I have’t been able to convince Dave to try it yet, but Hunter (14-months-old) LOVES it! I always sit down on the floor with an extra spoon and feed some to him as he plays in the morning. And Scarlett has willingly indulged in a few sips from time to time herself.

When I am feeling particularly lazy or cheap I simplify the ingredient list down to include just these items: lemon, cucumber, celery, parsley, mint, pear, banana, and 2 cups greens (I usually do kale, but sometimes I do a kale/swiss chard mix too).

If you are new to the world of green smoothies though, I suggest you start out with something more mild like My Original Morning Smoothie. It’s a great way to introduce you without scaring you for life, ha.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup spinach or torn kale leaves
  • 1 cup torn romaine leaves
  • ½ cup chopped cucumber
  • ½ cup chopped celery
  • 1 small pear (or ½ large), cored and chopped
  • 1 banana, chopped (preferably frozen)
  • 1 cup water or coconut water
  • 1 tablespoon of fresh mint
  • 1 tablespoon of fresh parsley
  • ½ to 1 whole lemon, juiced
  • ½ tablespoon chia seeds
  • ¼-inch slice ginger root, peeled
  • pinch of cayenne, optional
  • pinch of cinnamon, optional
  • pinch of turmeric, optional
  • *USE AS MANY ORGANIC INGREDIENTS AS POSSIBLE*
Instructions
  1. Place ingredients in blender and blend until completely smooth. Sweeten additionally, as desired, with liquid stevia.
Notes
I always use almost ¼ cup of mint leaves. I absolutely LOVE the flavor it adds to this smoothie.
You can use ½ a green apple in place of the pear.
Cilantro can be substituted for Mint.

    This looks delicious! Did it keep you pretty full throughout the morning– or did you have to eat something else with it?

    It kept me pretty full- but I am used to having just a green smoothie in the mornings. Starting off you might want to supplement with a little oatmeal until you get used to it. The theory is the cleaner you eat, the less you need… so ideally this is enough for breakfast.

    I know kale is gross to taste and smell. However I got used to it after a while and now I can even eat it raw. Your body will crave what you feed it. I actually really like Kale salads now. Hang in there. It is really really good for you.

    I noticed the recipe is high in sugar. Is this safe for diabetics? I’ve already lost 45 lbs but I’m stuck so I thought maybe this would get it started again.

    Weight loss is calories in vs calories out. As long as you’re making a deficit, the weight will drop. Doesn’t matter with what food as long as you are under your BMR/TDEE.

    Looks fantastic!! Just to add another ingredient to your already awesome mix, you should try adding a pinch of black pepper. Adding black pepper to turmeric enhances curcumin’s bioavailability by 1,000 times. Or so I’ve read :)

    I tried this and it tasted VERY good. My only concern is that now I seem to have more breakouts. I have combination skin and thought this would be something I could try to help with the minor breakouts. Could it be one ingredient or a combination of ingredients in this that could cause my frequent breakouts?

    It could be the DETOX causing your breakouts. When you first start detoxing or eating better, you can sometimes get worse before you get better. It is your body getting all the sludge and toxins that are buried deep in your body, into you system to be flushed. As they are brought forward into your system, before being flushed, it can cause many symptoms- headache, fatigue, AND breakout.

    I followed your recipe, except my banana wasn’t frozen, and I found the texture rather…..well, snot-like. (Sorry for the gross factor.) Would the banana being frozen make a difference, or is this just a texture I should get use to when using celery? (Never used it before, and I think it might be the culprit of the texture issue.)
    I must say though, the taste was very surprisingly good! I liked the bit of heat it had.

    Haha ummmm, not sure what you mean by ‘snot-like’. I find that sometimes when I add too much chia seed it gets kind of gelatinous??? Try leaving the chia seed out next time or try flaxseed. Glad the flavor at least appealed to you!

    Yes- I always go lemon, water, cucumber, celery, chia, spices, herbs, pear, banana, ginger, romaine, and spinach. I’m not sure whether it actually makes a difference in texture or not, but that is just how I’ve come to assemble mine from habit. If the gelatinous texture bothers you, please just omit the chia seeds. It is completely optionally and only there to slow down the adsorption of sugar into your blood stream.

    Hi,
    I’m trying the smoothie now and it’s not bad, but I’m missing fresh mint and ginger. I just subbed with ground ginger. Since there are a lot of fresh ingredients in this is there any way you prep ahead to make these every day? Maybe chopping and bagging everything together in Ziploc bags for the week? I’d love to make this every day and I usually have most ingredients on hand. Thanks!

    You can certainly try it with some of the ingredients. I’m not sure how well fresh lettuces/spinach/herbs freeze…. but the pear, banana, ginger, celery, and cucumber should be fine.

    Just wanted to chime in about the freezing of the greens from Mona’s comment about prepping ahead of time. I blend 6 tightly packed cups of spinach (or other greeens) with 1 cup of water and then pour into ice cube trays and freeze. Then I just put them all into a large freezer bag.

    The 6 cups of greens with 1 cup of water makes apx. 18 cubes. Then when I make my smoothies throughout the day, I just put in six (6) ‘green’ cubes (equals 2 cups of fresh) and blend!

    Doing it this way has a couple different benefits. I can purchase my spinach, kale, or other greens in larger quantities (or while on sale) and not have to worry about them going bad. I just cube them right away after purchasing.

    And, it makes the smoothies so nice, frozen and thick because of not only the fruits being frozen but also the greens.

    And it doesn’t take but just a few minutes to do it!

    I have yet to try this new recipe but am definitely going to give it a shot just as soon as I get to the store! But if you want to go even one step further with your prepping for your regular green smoothies, just toss in 6 green cubes along with your measured other frozen fruits into a freezer bag and wha-la! Just grab one of the bags out of the freezer when it’s time to make your smoothie, toss the cubes in with your water (or other chosen liquid), then your frozen fruit. Very quick and easy! Hope this helps!

    Fruits and vegetables loses some of it nutrients once cut. The longer you go before using, the more nutrients will be lost. Cutting before blending is best but if all fells, cutting the night before is better than most foods we tend to eat for breakfast. Maybe cutting a freezing may help. Search the web for tips.

    This looks amazing so I’ve given it a go this morning! I didn’t have mint or chia seeds so just went for it anyway. And I tastes great. (Although I think I went a tad too heavy on the cayenne! One question; could this be made in batches and frozen in portions to take out the night before? I guess it may lose some of its neutrino all value though.

    VITAMIX! It creates the creamiest, smoothest products. I’ve used standard blenders and the Ninja and none of them even compare. I do hear that the Blendtec is comparable to the vitamix though.

    I would recommend two of the best power foods in the world be added to this smoothie if its really that good. Cacao powder (not cocoa mind you) & the incredible Sprulina (Id personally recommend the kind that comes from Hawaii, its more expensive but its clean & safe; if you buy cheap it may be grown in a natural river in a 3rd world country and be contaminated by heavy metal toxins i.e. mercury; then this is damaging not helping your health!)

    Fitness enthusiasts & for all the supplement taking muscle heads. I love to work out, there’s endless options of man made supplements whey,creatine, nos etc. meat offers about 22% protein (I know not that much huh?) Sprulina offers 65% (the most protein out of any other food in the world) + its all natural, cleansing & detoxifying.

    For the Cacao I’d recommend purchasing the nibs & grinfing it into powder yourself, bc a lot of the nutrients is lost in the processing (when I buy powder its very light brown, when its ground from nibs its about 5-7 shades darker meaning more nutrients; if your going to spend the money & yield the most benefits take that little extra step & get the full amount of benefits)

    Use as little as one table spoon per each a day go as high as preferred you cant OD on either.

    This recipe is wonderful! I’ve been drinking one every morning for the past week and I love how it makes me feel. It’s delicious, and you totally wouldn’t expect it! I love seeing all the veggies and good ingredients and knowing that I am actually able to consume it all. My 13 month old loves it too, bonus!     I am trying to avoid sugar and I see there is 31 grams of sugar and 60 grams of carbohydrates in this smoothie. Does it not matter bc it’s all natural? I get so confused over this. Is this drink just adding to my sugar intake? Will I lose weight by drinking this in the morning?

    If you are worried about the sugar content then just use half a banana or omit it completely. You can try to make up the difference with some stevia. Sugar, no matter what form is still sugar. So if your body is sensitive to sugar then you may want to decrease some of the fruit in this smoothie. Personally, I don’t worry about sugar from fruit because the fruit itself is so nutrient dense and is accompanied by all that fiber, that I don’t think the sugars are anything to fret over.

    I’ve started adding a handful of frozen blueberries and a slice of pineapple to this! Here’s one question; I’ve started to do a lemon juice/cayenne pepper drink to my morning routine. Would you suggest any other citrus to go along with this instead of lemon? I was thinking orange or grapefruit. Would love your opinion!

    Lemon is really the most detoxifying citrus. I would guess that orange might be too high in sugars to achieve the same benefit. But it would certainly have a nice flavor boost! If you are simply looking to sweeten, I would suggest liquid stevia. That is what I put in my lemon water in the morning. I use NuNaturals brand.

    Yes, you can make it and the refrigerate it. It will have a slightly different texture though. And it will separate as it sits, so be sure to stir it first!

    If I’m doing this for a detox, and not daily maintenance, how many days should I do this for? How many times a day? I started today and it was very good, although I think I’ll cut down the parsley a tad tomorrow. I added about 1tsp of agave nectar instead of Stevia. I couldn’t tell that it enhanced anything, so I’ll probably omit in the next mix. The pear and banana were ripe, so I think that’s the only sweetness I need.

    I would do it for at least three days and up to 2 times a day. And I agree- if the banana and pear are ripe enough then it is usually perfectly sweet!

    Thank you so much for this recipe! I’ve been watching and waiting for the perfect green smoothie to come along and this is it! What sold me on it was the listed benefits of each ingredient, so I knew exactly why it was included and what it would do for me. I was a little worried about the cucumber (I hate cucumber! ) but I was brave, and guess what? I can’t even taste it! I got excited when I blended it and saw it turn the most beautiful bright green. Then it was surprisingly delicious! I actually added a chopped medjool date to mine for sweetness instead of agave or Stevia. It’s my favorite way to naturally sweeten smoothies. You should give it a try some time! Thanks again!

    * Do you soak the Chia seeds overnight or do you add them as is with the other ingredients?

    * What brand of cayenne, tumeric and cinnamon do you use? I am not sure if the brands found in local supermarkets are “pure”.

    I add the chia seeds in the blender, unsoaked. I usually use store brand cayenne, but I usually buy my tumeric and cinnamon in bulk online since I use them so often. Most of the times I get Frontier Organic Spices.

    Hey everyone! :D I tried this smoothie for the first time this morning, how deliciously nutritious! I was feeling sluggish and had tummy cramps so I decided to search for a nutritious green smoothie to detox with, I landed here! I didn’t scroll all the way down to see the measurements (it was a rushed search) so I threw a bit of everything in a blender and it turned out awesome! this is officially my new favorite green smoothie!     Hey Jamie, its so cool that your kid drink smoothie :-) To be honest I would not recommend to freeze it as it became not so tasty. For example I compared the taste of fresh kale and freezed kale and it was so bitter and the taste wasnt so good. Try it, but I would expect it will not be good.     The texture will definitely be different. A bit thicker from all the fiber absorbing the water. And it will also separate. The taste might change a bit too. But it can be done! Just stir it up well before drinking.

    I have been struggling with acne and I’m 40yrs old. Nothing seems to be working so I decided to find a detox to start from the inside of my body trying to get rid of this acne. So I found this recipe and decided to try it. I am drinking it for the 1st time as I type this comment. I must say it’s very good. Lots of ingredients so I need to find a way to make this quick in the morning before going to work. I am going to do this for 2wks to see what changes I will see. Check back soon.

    So I’m on day 4. Drinking it right now for dinner because I missed my breakfast shake. I am definitely feeling lighter. Lol! So far I don’t have any new pimples so I am going to keep going with this shake. I’m trying to lose weight as well. I work out 3 days a week and today I had tons of energy to release.     If the rest or your diet is clean, it should take around a week or so. It all depends on the state of your body at the time. Obviously, if you have a lot of toxin build-up it might take longer.

    Just start off simple and don’t put too much pressure on yourself if the meals aren’t too exciting at first. You’ll learn more about what you can do for meals as time goes by and you experiment. For meal ideas, I would suggest searching online or getting a vegan cookbook or two. that is how I started. Now I never struggle with what to eat. Good luck!

    It all depends on the individual and the state of their body. The more toxic their system is, the longer the detox period. I would say it is over on an average of one week though. And I would recommend having it at least once a day.

    Definitely! You can use a juicer. The only thing you will lose is the fiber.

    Tried this without spinach and it tastes better than you expect and smells good too…. It does seem a bit thick but adding ice helps it down easier. Defiantly worth trying!!!

    So I finally tried this! I tried it with a Ninja and a Vitamix and the Vitamix is definitely better! Will be returning my Ninja. I have a couple questions. How do you make it more streamlined to add all the ingredients? It probably took me about 20 just to put everything in it. I don’t want cut/premake too much to lose the nutritional value. The think that too me the longest was definitely juicing the lemon. Do you have any suggestions for that? If I pre-built a couple and refrigerate the juice will I lose the lemon ‘ nutritional benefits? Also, organic food is expensive and one think of spinach only has about 3 days worth in it. How do you make yours the most cost effective? Thanks so much!

    I am so grocery deficient now, it’s crazy, but I will be starting this next week! I discovered a while back that fresh kale always left my smoothies with a “gritty” texture. Quite by accident, I bought some organic frozen kale one day instead of spinach, so I tried that in my smoothies and it was amazing. No grittiness. Yay!

    Hi Chandria, to lose weight I would start to cut out as much processed food as possible and stick with only the natural stuff. The cleaner your body is, the faster you will lose weight. I recommend starting with this once a day and then building it up to twice a day for breakfast in lunch. SO start by drinking a 2 cup glass of water with half a freshly juiced lemon in it as soon as you wake up. Then when you get hungry, have this smoothie. For lunch and dinner eat something as natural and full of vegetables as possible. You can search online for some vegan recipes. Once you go through your detox period, where you will feel worse before you get better, then you can start drinking up to two of these smoothies a day. Personally, I drink this smoothie in the morning and then a different healthy, vegan smoothie for lunch, and then I have a nice, healthy vegan meal for dinner. Basically my strongest suggestion for you would be to go vegan and all-natural with your diet. Hope that helps!

    Loved this smoothie! Have been looking for a good detox smoothie for a while. Only thing is when I made it this morning it turned out really spicy. I have sensitive taste buds regardless but could it have been the cayenne pepper? I’m not sure which other ingredient included could have made it spicy

    I am so EXCITED to try a green smoothie routine every morning. Although I do have a few extra pounds to lose, I am in this for the health benefits – which appear to be amazing! I have been feeling a bit sluggish lately and have created a habit of drive-thru eating on my busy days.. Last week I committed to stop those drive-thru runs, and today I am adding this smoothie :) I am drinking my first one as I type this comment, and it IS surprisingly good!     Let me tell you: I am comfy – cozy, relaxing in bed. Guess who’s about to get up and go back to the store?! I strayed away from my healthy lifestyle some time ago, after successfully losing 50 lb. I didn’t realize how much of that weight I gained back until very recently. I told my girls (13 and 5) today about restarting my green smoothies and a healthier way of eating/living. I picked up several smoothie items this evening. I thought, hmm, I need more than my usual smoothie. I did a search, and came across your recipe. I was so encouraged by all of the posts. I can’t wait to start. Thank you for your recipe.     Thanks I really liked the taste. I am a black pepper person so I am going to try that tomorrow. Couple of questions: Can you pre-blend the smoothies up and freeze so you can just grab one in the morning? Do you just eat/drink these for all your meals when you’re cleansing? Or just for breakfast? If just for breakfast do you do anything special during the rest of the day?

    Yes, you can make this ahead of time. It will drastically alter the taste and texture though. Personally I don’t like it that way, but it can definitely be done. But you will need to stir very well because the smoothie will separate. And as for how often I drink this, I drink this once a day, just for breakfast, and then for lunch I make another smoothie (usually with 1 1/2 cups water, 1 cup chopped zucchini, 1 cup chopped carrot, 1/4 cup pumpkin purée, 2 tablespoons mashed avocado, 6 dates, 1/4 cup dried mulberries, 2 tablespoons cacao powder, a scoop of sunwarrior vanilla protein powder, and some cinnamon and stevia). Then for dinner I just eat anything I want as long as its vegan.

    You can skip the chia seed and use 1/2 a pear or 1/2 a banana. Not sure what the exact calories would be if you did that but it will help decrease the number.

    Yes, the whole quantity. It will seem like a lot volume wise but it really doesn’t have a lot of calories. You can save it, but personally I don’t like the taste and texture of this smoothie as it sits.

    I have never heard about that with turmeric before. It may very well be true. I would think that like most things heating damages nutrients and would be most beneficial raw. But! This could be a case where that is not true though.

    This smoothie is the bomb! Best way get some veggies in first thing everyday. The number of ingredients is daunting and the flavor a bit crazy, but the tang and heat made me grow to love it. My mind is clear, tummy satisfied and it’s all support for the entire body. My husband loves it as much as I do and is totally on board. I had him read you article which gave credibility to my case for making the healthiest detoxifier. We are in our 70′s, so your never to old to learn. Many thanks.

    Thank you for the recipe – I skipped the simple one and went straight to this one – I was pleasantly surprised at how much I like it! The second day, I used honey as sweetener. Also, my husband had some pineapple-flavored coconut water that he didn’t like, so I used that for the water – it was VERY good!

    I have been in need of some sort of detox for some time. Have thought about trying the 3-day cleanse from Shakeology, but just can’t make myself take that financial fall. So, I stumbled upon this green juice and decided to give it a shot!
    I am sipping {er, chugging} this at this moment.
    Let me just say that I DO NOT LIKE CUCUMBER.
    So, in still wanting the benefits from it, I only put in 1/4 cup and added a little extra mint and ginger, I did a whole lemon’s worth of juice. I also didn’t have turmeric or cayenne but subbed for a pinch of curry powder.
    Came out good — I can barely taste the cucumber! I am going to try to make this for a few days, hope to see some healthy results from it!

    This was so delicious! The only change I made was apple instead of pear. The cayenne is a great compliment to the ginger and lemon. I have to say, because I live in Aruba, I have to freeze my greens because by the time they get here they are almost expired. I don’t find the taste different at all.

    Great smoothie!! I’m in Asia at the moment travelling with a nutri bullit! It’s amazing what I’m finding over here to put in herbs wise :) I have been using turmeric myself but apparently it’s needs to be taken with some fat for out bodies to absorb it fully so a spoonful or 2 of natural yog or a tablespoon of oiive oil is recommended to get the full potential from the tumeric and I would guess the same with the cinnamon! Black pepper with works wonders together with These spices!

    I just purchased the NutriBullet attempting to improve my overall health. I googled detox smoothies and found yours to be the most informational. I found everything but the parsley @ Walmart. I was so excited to try it I made it as soon as I got home. I did have to add ice, but it was definitely good. I was very surprised.

    It does add a slight amount of additional sugar, but it really isn’t too high in sugar. You can totally just use regular water, that’s what I usually do (I use coconut water in my lunch smoothie). The advantage of using coconut water is that it is full of nutrients and electrolytes to help with hydration.

    Yes, you can pre-cut and bag all the veggies and fruit. You can juice the lemon the night before too. The only thing I’ve tried freezing is the banana.

    You can just omit them. Or instead of romaine, you can use some other mild tasting green lettuce, and for the chia seeds- flax seeds or hemp seeds work well.

    I do one similar to this, but no banana or pear. I transfer mine to a blender with about 1/4 of an avocado! I’ve been drinking this 2 times a day for a couple of months. I can’t say that I’ve lost weight, but if I haven’t had it for a couple of days because I was on vacation my body feels the difference.

    I don’t put any fruit in mine, but I use almost everything you mentioned. I also add a jalapeno, and 1/4 of and avocado i pour the juice in the blender. The avocado, helps it all stay together, kinda like a shake!

    Hi I started today with the smoothie, it wasn’t bad all all. I have some questions., if I drink that smoothie Im substituting breakfast in the morning?? Can I drink the smoothie at night substituting the dinner? I wonder because it has apple and banana and that’s carbs. I’m trying to loose weight so far I have lost 11 pounds in one month and I’m happy about it but I want to loose some more

    You can drink it twice a day, sure. If you are worried about the carbs, you can use half a pear/apple and half a banana. Then you can sweeten additional with stevia as needed. To make a more of a rounded meal you could add some plan-based protein powder such as hemp protein powder or sunwarrior protein power, you can use 1 TB hemp seeds too. Or even 2 tablespoons mashed avocado. That way you get in those healthy fats and protein for the day too.

    Thank you for the recipe and all the advice. I started using a similar recipe from last week Monday as a replacement for breakfast and lunch because I want to loose weight. I have not been including banana’s in mine but alternate between an apple and pear. From this yesterday morning I started including all the ingredients you’ve mentioned in your recipe but in the rush to read through, I missed lettuce and Turmeric. It does keep one full until the next meal and I must say that I have been receiving compliments about my skin already. My work clothes are getting a tiny bit loose and I will not stop until I see big difference in my weight. This is my second second week and hope to have all the ingredients to start my 3rd week and see from there. Thank you so much and keep up the motivation.

    Peanut butter might taste a little funny. Almond butter is definitely the way to go. I would add 1 tablespoon, but you could add up to 2.

    Hi, thanks for the recipe looks delicious and can’t wait to start drink it every morning. Is this one serve? I see in the nutritional facts says 1 serve, however in one of the comments you mentioned it yields 3cups. If 1 serve, should I drink all at once or through the day. Thanks :)

    It is one serving. It seems like a lot, but it’s not that bad. If it is too much for you to handle, then you can split up the servings. Personally, I don’t like the flavor of it when it’s not fresh.

    LOVE LOVE LOVE this recipe (I think it’s the mint and parsley I like the most). I’m the furthest thing from a vegan but I don’t eat grains and was looking for a fantastic green smoothie recipe and found it here for sure!!! LOVE the taste of this although I left out the cucumber (eat amazing Persian cucumbers with a little Pink Himalayan salt with my lunch). GREAT smoothie!!! Fantastic for giving long term energy.

    No, it is a normal side effect for some people. Certain people may have a harder time digesting it because their bodies are not used to all that fiber in their intestines. Eventually your body should adjust, unless your intestines are just highly sensitive.

    I’m a sweet, fruit smoothie type of girl with a handful of spinach or kale tossed in. So, I wasn’t sure how I would like this. It threw me at first with the celery and cayenne spice making the taste more reminiscent of a soup or Bloody Mary than a smoothie. Yet, not a bad taste at all. Today was my second day, and I liked it even better.I feel silly for asking this, but do you blend in the lemon itself (peel & all) or just add the juice…or both? The recipe calls for 1/2 to 1 whole lemon, juiced. So, I’m a little confused. I only used the juice.

    I’m going to start trying this tomorrow, I’ve been vegetarian for quite some time now and I heard detox smoothies are an amazing health boost, however I’m wondering, what measurements would be needed to make just one cup vs the expected 3 or so??     I usually buy my smoothie from a juice bar, but i am so tired of going out the way to to buy something that i can make at home. This smoothie is delicious. I mean i LOVE it.     I just stop by to say thank you for this recipe. I got it from you almost a month ago and I’ve had this smoothie at the least 20 times. I’ve got it down to a science now with making it. When I take out everything one day I (make two) putting the ingredients in a plastic bowl for the next day so making it everyday won’t get old. I love startng my day with this, it just makes me feel wonderful.

    I just made this. I did add pineapple instead of pear and left out parsley because we didn’t have any. Delicious! My children are drinking it too! Mint is not a good ingredient for nursing moms. It decreases milk supply. Just an FYI. I don’t know about any of the other ingredients.

    If it needs to be sweetened to your liking I would suggest maple syrup, dates, or stevia. Agave will work will too. I would stay away from cane sugar since it is not as unrefined as those listed previously.

    My friend gave me this recipe in May 2015. I love it. I broke my blender in November and switched to oatmeal and fruit for breakfast. I gained 12 pounds. I repaired my blender and back on your super morning smoothie. I forgot how refreshing this drink is. I am the camp nurse at a very busy mountain camp. Your drink gives me energy to get through a strenuous morning without snacking. I lost three pounds the first week. We shall see how the weight goes the rest of the summer! I make up a batch of ingredients in individual serving size on my afternoon off. I put one serving of leafy greens in one freezer bag. And all the other ingredients in another. Each morning I pull a bag of each out of our walk in freezer. I put the leafy bag in first and the heavier chopped up ingredients on top. I add about 12-16 ounces of water and pulse the whole thing. Delicious! Thanks!

    Yeah, I wouldn’t worry about that- its just the fiber. It will clean out your colon and everybodys body will react differently based on their usual daily fiber intake.

    You can pre-cut and bag the ingredients in the fridge that way you can make it fresh really quickly, but I don’t recommend freezing the already made smoothie since there is lots of fiber, the consistency will change. It won’t be pleasant.

    I wouldn’t necessarily recommend that… thats an awfully long time, especially for your first try. I would start with the three days and if you could maybe make it to a week, keep going. Just play it by ear and see how you feel!

    I appreciate your sharing this with anyone. You seem to be very conscientious, and serious about finding things that will make a difference in our health. This is my first time to try a detox plan, which I got at Whole Foods. It’s for 14 days, and I’m in the 4th day. My system is starting to clean out from their capsules. It’s hard for me to know what to eat in solid, or liquid foods with this. They don’t include any diet plan to go with it.
    My lower stomach area was hurting badly about 6 days ago, so I finally want to change my eating habits, and found your Super Smoothie recipe, which sounds intriguing, but my system might not be ready for it yet. If I’m already cleaning out, should I hold off on starting this, or any of your green smoothies for a while?
    Any suggestions you might have are appreciated.

    I substituted the chia seeds with a spoon full of peanut butter because the seeds drop my blood pressure dangerously low and I wanted the protein, substituted the water with pineapple juice for flavor, and added a handful of frozen berries. It was incredible.

    I tried making this today and I wanted to love this but I think I made it too spicy lol! I might have put a little too much cayenne! I usually make my green drinks with almond milk instead of water but I need to detox. It also needs to be colder for me to drink it. Next time I’ll use ice as well. It does seem like it would be a great detox drink so I’m going to do it a few more times and hopefully i will get it right so I can keep it up! Thanks for this great detox!
